All The Pigs Getting Along

Here is a rare moment when all four of the adult pigs are getting along.  The three brown pigs are our Tamworths and the white one is a Yorkshire that belongs to a kid who helps us out around the farm.  In addition to these four we have a second Yorkshire, a Berkshire Gilt and the two young Tamworth’s that were born here in March.  Soon, very soon we are going to have a piglet explosion as all three adult Gilt and Sows are pregnant.

This picture was taken about a week ago and we have already separated the Boar into his own pen for the reaminder of the year.  We did this so that should one of the pigs not be pregnanat we would not want any unexpected piglets over the Winter.  Last years pigs were born in March and the cold made it tough enough.  This year we will keep the boar in his own pen until early January.  Pigs gestation period is 3 months, 3 days, and 3 hours so we would have our first litters in April 2014, in time for warmer and calmer weather.
