The Growing Season Is Wrapping Up Nicely

The pumpkins and gourds are being harvested for the Fall season and are available for purchase in our Farm Store.  I can remember a time back in 2009 or 2010 when I could not get a pumpkin to grow at East Durham Farms.  We seem to have solved that issue over the past two growing seasons.  In 2013 and now in 2014 we have grown several thousand pounds of pumpkins here on the Farm.  Back in 2009 and 2010 we were just beginning our fertilization program and had no bee hives.  We have added finished compost to our fields and supplemented the soil with lime, rock phosphate and Azomite.  These soil amendments take time to become available to the plants for uptake and the bees have sure helped.  This year our bee yard grew from two hives, that successfully made it through last winter, to four hives with the addition of two hives in June from a local beekeeper.

Please stop at the Farm as we are still harvesting cabbage, broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, artichokes, summer and winter squash, potatoes, onions, etc.  The freezers are stocked with our farm raised fresh pork and chicken.  Now taking orders for Thanksgiving turkeys.

I cannot say it enough but this has been a year of tremendous growth for East Durham Farms.  I want to thank all of our customers and everyone who helps make it a success.
