Piglets

In August 10, 2013 we had a litter of Tamworth piglets born to our oldest sow and boar. There was a total of 7 piglets born and 5 survived until we discovered them on Sunday afternoon.  We allowed her to farrow in the woods and she chose one of the pig huts and all appeared to be well.  We had bedded down some additional hay in the hut prior to her farrowing to help keep the piglets warm and comfortable.  This was my first litter as we had piglets born this past Spring but I was out of town so I missed them being born.  From talking to my assitants they said this appeared to be much easier than farrowing in March.

I am not clipping teeth on my piglets but we did notch there ears so we can know which litter number they are from and identify any problems should they arise.
